You Have A Good Voice For TV And Radio
July 10, 2008 by Michelle Waters
I found this “What American Accent Do You Have?” quiz on a colleague’s website and thought I’d give it a try.
Now, the funny thing about this is, I grew up in Oklahoma. We moved here when I was three and I have lived her since then for all but nine months. Those nine months were spent in Missouri. I’d just had a baby, so I didn’t spend much time getting out picking up other people’s accents.
One thing to consider though — my Mom is from Nebraska and I was around her the most during my early years of learning to talk. So perhaps this is what is influencing me. However, this still doesn’t account for an accent from Pennsylvania, Ohio or Illinois. LOL!
Personally, I sometimes hear some Okie colloquialisms pop out of my mouth. And sometimes I think I sound like I’m from this area.
What do you think? Those of you who are listening to my podcast: Do I really sound link I have a Midland accent? And more importantly, what accent do you have?

Your Result: The Midland
“You have a Midland accent” is just another way of saying “you don’t have an accent.” You probably are from the Midland (Pennsylvania, southern Ohio, southern Indiana, southern Illinois, and Missouri) but then for all we know you could be from Florida or Charleston or one of those big southern cities like Atlanta or Dallas. You have a good voice for TV and radio. |

Fun quiz, Michelle! I do hear a little southern accent in your voice but I wouldn’t peg you as being from the deep south but wouldn’t consider you from the midland, either.
The quiz got me totally wrong. They guessed North Midland for me - Wisconsin or Chicago and that I probably call soda “pop”. Nope! Grew up in New England my entire life where soda is soda, ice cream sprinkles are NOT jimmies, and subs or hero sandwiches are called grinders. LOL
Hi Christina!
You don’t have an accent at all to me. How funny is that? LOL!
We call soft drinks “pop” or just “coke” down here. Ice cream sprinkles are just called sprinkles and subs are “subs.”
Of course, if we’re trying to give you directions, we’re likely to tell you that what you’re looking for is “over yonder.”
I’ve lived her most of my life and I’m still trying to figure out where “yonder” is. LOL!
